Ps4 4.50 Beta Download
Update: The registration form has been updated and now allows applicants to indicate that they are or are not a PlayStation Now subscriber. The 5.0 update may still feature some kind of new Now-related functionality, but it seems that being a subscriber may not actually be a requirement to get into the beta.
Although this changelog is leaked from the beta version of PS4 system software update 4.50, most if not all of these features will more than likely be seen in the full release of the new firmware. Sony today made available the new 4.50 release of its PS4 software, bringing a raft of new and much requested features to the game console. The update can be downloaded via the PlayStation 4 console right now. Perhaps top of the list of changes in this version of the PS4 software is the ability to use external hard disk drives for the storage of games. Starting today, those of you selected for our beta program will get an early peek at some of the new features coming to PS4 with our next major system software update, version 4.50 (codenamed Sasuke). Original Story: The next big system update for PlayStation 4 has been confirmed as version 5.0. Ahead of its release, Sony will conduct a beta test that you can sign up for right now.
Beta registration runs from today until 'the start of the beta in early August,' according to a PlayStation Blog post. You'll need to be 18 years old to do so and have access to a Master account on your PS4. There's also one other requirement, and it's a bit unusual: you have to be a PlayStation Now subscriber.
As part of the brief sign-up process, there's a checkbox to mark that you're a subscriber to Now, Sony's subscription-based streaming game service. In order to submit the registration form, you have to affirm that you're a Now subscriber. It's unclear if not actually being a subscriber will prevent you from getting into the beta; the PlayStation Blog post makes no mention of this. But you may want to subscribe for a month if you're eager to improve your odds of gaining early access to the new firmware.
Those who are accepted will receive an email that explains how to download the system update. As with previous betas, you'll be able to roll back to the current firmware if you decide you're tired of sampling the future.
You can sign up through the region-specific links below:
There's no word yet on what the 5.0 update will include, but the Now requirement would suggest there will be some new feature tied to that. The last big PS4 update, 4.50, added Boost mode for PS4 Pro owners and external hard drive support, among other things. Subsequent updates haven't done much.
What's New:
This system software update improves system performance.
Custom wallpapers from USB
- One major feature that was included with the 5.50 update beta trial was the ability to customise the PS4 home screen with your own images from a USB stick.
- To get started, save your pictures into a folder named 'IMAGES' on your USB stick. Ensure this folder is at the top of the USB directory, i.e. not saved within another folder. Note the max image resolution is 1920×1080 for PS4 and 3840×2160 for PS4 Pro.
- Then with the USB stick connected to your PS4, select Settings > Themes > Select Theme > Custom > Select Image > USB Storage Device. Once your image is selected you can zoom and crop it, all while seeing in real time how it looks on the home screen.
- You can also customise the thumbnail of group message threads with images taken from USB. Select Messages > Select Message > Group Settings >Image> Change Image> USB Storage Device
Play Time Management
- Another major update is Play Time Management. This feature gives Family Managers (and adult family members set as Guardians), the ability to control when and for how long each individual child can play for. Playtime can even be set to vary depending on the day of the week, for example, you could allow your child to play for two hours between 4-7pm during the week and then for 4 hours between 8am-8pm on the weekend.
- This joins a long list of parental management features already available, including the ability to individually set what each child in your family on PlayStation Network (PSN) plays, watches and accesses online. All these features can be accessed on your PS4 via Settings > Family Management.
- What's more, you can also monitor and change these settings on the go from your PC or Smartphone via the PSN account web portal – giving parents greater flexibility and peace of mind.
Library improvements
- New tabs and filters are also being added to the Library, to make it easier to organise and find content.
- New 'This PS4' and 'Name/Avatar' tabs allow you to split content between everything you own and what's currently installed on your PS4.
- There is now a dedicated PS Plus tab too showing all Monthly Free Games you have access to, along with the ability to hide certain apps under the 'Purchased' tab – such as old trials or demos of games.
Other new or revised features in version 5.00:
- For (Messages), screen layout has been improved, and the following features have been added.
- You can now receive music that has been shared with you as a message. Select the message to play the music.
