Kel-Tec has issued a safety recall on some 2017-made SUB-2000 carbines due to improper heat treating. If your SUB-2000 is among the problem guns (see list of serial numbers here) you barrel could rupture when it’s fired. Equally, a good number of people (such as myself) had early production Kel Tec pistols (mine was a P32) because the LOVED the idea of such a small and lightweight gun. However, they found the guns to be problematic and were turned-off to the brand because of their experience.

With the proceeds from selling off a couple of guns I never use anymore (a pseudo-scout rifle and a Buckmark .22), yesterday I swung by one of my local gun merchants and picked up a new KelTec PF9. For pocket carry in the sweltering Arizona summer, I wanted to upgrade to 9mm from my previous .380, which has now been appropriated by my wife.
Before I purchased it, I slipped it into the pocket of my shorts. Excellent fit! The pistol is light and very flat for a 9mm, and should carry well in the pocket. The merchant didn't have the belt clip in stock, so I will have to order from KelTec before I can report on 'carryability' in my running attire, which is my secondary use for this gun.
The pistol itself is a typical KelTec product, meaning it's ugly and a little crude compared to a more refined pistol like a SIG or Beretta. The non-illuminated three-dot sights are blocky and good - far better than on the P32/P3AT - though tight, with little light showing on either side of the front sight.
Trigger action is slightly improved over the P3AT, light and very smooth for the first 4/5ths of its travel, then stacking up at the end. This should be reasonably easy to shoot well, though the reset, while properly firm, is not anywhere near as short as on a Glock.
The frame has a little slotted rail for attaching lights or lasers. Since this is a pocket gun for me, with a premium on light weight and compactness, I will attach neither.
The grip area is comfortable, with trigger reach well-suited to my small hand. The frame is very thin, lending itself well to my purposes of pocket/running shorts carry. Grip angle is '1911ish' in contrast to the steeper Glock grip angle.
I haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet, and my family is arriving from New England today, so a full range report will have to wait. I have attached some pics showing the PF9 with a P32 (the wife had already slipped the P3AT into her purse) and the ubiquitous Glock 26, for size comparisons. As you can see, the PF9 is somewhat larger than the P32, and thicker. It is also about the same height as the Glock, but shorter in length and decisively thinner.
As a side note, anyone in Arizona's East Valley who hasn't been to AJI in Apache Junction lately should stop in. Gun selection and quality of service improved tremendously while I was deployed. It was an excellent buying experience this time around, contrary to my earlier experiences there.
